Neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, stroke, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and multiple sclerosis are all abnormalities of the central nervous system (CNS). The causes of such abnormalities may be due to several factors such as genetics, trauma, aging or unknown (idiopathic) in several neurological diseases. According to the World Health Organization, as of 2007 it is estimated that greater 1 billion individuals suffer from some form of a neurological disease. In addition, that number is destined to rise significantly as populations increase and age. In many cases, the best treatments can only slow the rate of progression of the disease.
Stem cells offer promise to patients suffering from neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s disease. Scientific literature is loaded with thousands of publications in the field of stem cells and abnormalities of the CNS. DaVinci Biosciences is currently screening for candidates to potentially undergo future clinical studies to evaluate the effectiveness of treatments with stem cells and to determine the best methods of application of these cells. The targeted disease applications include Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. Through responsible research, our goal is to stop the progression of disease and improve the quality of life for individuals suffering from neurological diseases.
